Millionaire Kela Retired

Millionaire Kela, a grade I winner and runner-up in the Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I), has been retired from racing because of a nagging ankle injury. Owner Jay Manoogian is exploring options for standing the 7-year-old son of Numerous at stud.

Kela rose to national prominence last year for Manoogian and trainer Mike Mitchell after winning the Bing Crosby Breeders' Cup (gr. I) and Pat O'Brien Breeders' Cup (gr. II) Handicaps in consecutive starts at Del Mar. He then ran second to subsequent champion Speightstown in the Sprint. Kela also won the 2004 Texas Mile Stakes (gr. III) and the previous year's Tokyo City Handicap. In his sole start this year, he ran third in the Deputy Minister Handicap (gr. III) at Gulfstream Park.

Bred by Cypress Farms and initially raced by Aaron and Marie Jones, Kela retired with eight wins from 26 races and earnings of $1,022.527. His dam, Bolshoi Comedy, is by Sovereign Dancer.
