Fees Announced at Vinery Australia

Vinery Australia announced its stud fees for 2005, a signal that despite recently selling its broodmares, it is not pulling out of the Australian market.

The stallion roster is headed by Red Ransom, who will stand for $55,000 (U.S. $43,000).

"We have said all along that we are changing direction only," said Vinery's Australian general manager Peter Orton. "We will always stand stallions down here and race horses, but we are no longer interested in breeding."

Three of the stallions at Dr. Tom Simon's Vinery have become huge success stories: Red Ransom, More Than Ready  , and Mossman. More Than Ready's stock clearly love grass, abundantly evident by the fact he is the current leading freshman sire in Australia with a group I winner and three other stakes performed runners.

More Than Ready will stand for $44,000 (U.S.$34,000) this year, up from $16,500 last year. "And we have 257 nominations to him already," enthused Orton.

Mossman is back ready for action after his season last year was cut horribly short by a colic attack. He served just 45 mares from the book of 165 he had going to him. "But he is back fighting fit and looking like a superstar," said Orton, who noted the stallion has 200 nominations to him already. His fee has also gone up too, from $16,500 to $27,500 (U.S. $21,500).

Rounding out the Vinery draft is former Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I) winner Success Express, who will stand for $11,000, while Way Of Light will have a fee of $4,400.
