It will be speed vs. stamina in Saturday's Cicada Stakes (gr. III) at Aqueduct when 3-year-old fillies Megascape and Acey Deucey hook up against each other under topweight of 122 pounds in the field of eight. The two first met in the Feb. 21 Dearly Precious at six furlongs at Aqueduct, and it was a fast closing Acey Deucey, at 24-1, winning her second consecutive start and odds-on Megascape finishing third after having engaged in a speed duel with Slew Motion early on.
Megascape, on the other hand, boasts graded stakes experience at Aqueduct, winning the Valley Stream (gr. III) in her last 2-year-old start. She opened this season with score in the Ruthless at the Big A.
Pelham Bay, next in the weights at 118 pounds, finished second in the Ruthless as well as in this year's Busanda, but was well beaten in the Busher in her last start. Shipping north from Florida are Alfonsina and Salute. Second in the Valley Stream, Alfonsina was second in the Old Hat (gr. III) at Gulfstream Park in early February. Salute hasn't run since finishing second in the Demoiselle Stakes (gr. II) to the highly regarded Sis City at Aqueduct in November. Both fillies arrived the week of the Cicada and will carry 116 pounds.
The Cicada field is completed by Dixie Talking, Mackenzie Nicole, and Take a Check, who missed winning the mile Wide Country by a nose at Laurel in February.
