FTBOA Announces 2004 Champions

The Florida Thoroughbred Breeders' and Owners' Association has announced the eight divisional Florida-bred champions for 2004. The award winners will be honored at the 45th Annual FTBOA awards dinner March 20, at Hilton Ocala in Ocala, Fla. The Florida breeder, horse, stallion and broodmare of the year award recipients will be announced March 20.

The divisional champions are:

2-year-old colt:Afleet Alex (Northern Afleet  --Maggy Hawk, by Hawkster), bred by John Martin Silvertand, owned by Cash Is King Stable, trained by Timothy Ritchey

2-year-old filly:Splendid Blended (Unbridled's Song--Valid Blend, by Valid Appeal), bred and owned by Peter Vegso, trained by Neil Drysdale

3-year-old colt:Limehouse (Grand Slam -- Dixieland Blues, by Dixieland Band), bred by Cheryl Curtin, owned by Dogwood Stable, trained by Todd Pletcher

3-year-old filly:Hopelessly Devoted (Storm Creek--Silver Treego, by Silver Buck), bred by Dr. Sandy Lynn Price, owned by Liberty Stable, trained by Sandra Slivka

older male:Southern Image (Halo's Image--Pleasant Dixie, by Dixieland Band), bred by Arthur I. Appleton, owned by Blahut Stables, Kagele Brothers, and Allen and Josh Tepper, trained by Michael Machowsky

older female:Lady Tak (Mutakddim--Star of My Eye, by Lucky North), bred by John Franks, owned by Heiligbrodt Racing Stable, trained by Steve Asmussen

sprinter:Midas Eyes (Touch Gold  --Bayou Plans, by Bayou Hebert), bred by Jacks or Better Farm, owned by Edmund A. Gann, trained by Robert Frankel
