R Star Stallions announced Nov. 30 that multiple graded stakes winner Prayer for Relief has been relocated from Florida to stand at the Anderson, Ind., farm for a fee of $3,000 in 2018.
Prayer for Relief broke his maiden as a 2-year-old and placed in the Real Quiet Stakes at Hollywood Park before emerging as a successful 3-year-old with three consecutive graded stakes victories in the Iowa Derby (G3), West Virginia Derby (G2) and Super Derby (G2).
The son of Jump Start then went on to a long and productive career as a top handicap horse while racing almost exclusively in graded stakes company. All told, he won six stakes and placed in 15 others—nearly all graded—including placings in the Woodward Stakes (G1), and the grade 2 Suburban and Strub stakes, along with a victory in the Prairie Meadows Cornhusker Handicap (G3).
He made his final start in the Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes (G1) as a 9-year-old, finishing 10th, and ended his career with a record of 8-6-10 from 46 starts and earnings of $2,277,948. He stood his initial season at Pleasant Acres Stallions in Florida in 2017 for a $3,500 fee, and bred 22 mares, according to Equineline statistics, through Nov. 30.
"Very few horses in recent memory displayed the combination of durability, longevity, and talent that Prayer for Relief did, so we are so pleased to have him in Indiana," said Leigh Ann Hopper, who with her husband, Kerry, operates R Star Stallions. "The quality of stallions in Indiana has been increasing every year as the Indiana program has grown, and we think Prayer for Relief helps continue that trend as one of the highest earners, if not the highest earner, to stand in the state."
Bred by G. R. Aschinger in Kentucky, Prayer for Relief is out of the multiple stakes-winning and stakes-producing Sparklin Lil. Zayat Stables retains ownership of the stallion as he joins a roster at R Star Stallions that also includes Deputy Storm , Taprize , and What Now .
