Despite his third-place finish in the Sentient Jet Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1), horseplayers still view Bolt d'Oro as the most likely winner of the 2018 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1).
Ruis Racing's two-time grade 1 winner Bolt d'Oro was the top individual choice in the first of four Kentucky Derby Future Wager pools as the son of Medaglia d'Oro closed at 7-1 in the pool conducted Nov. 23-26. Before his third-place finish in the Juvenile behind winner Good Magic (11-1 in future wager) and runner-up Solomini (22-1), Bolt d'Oro won his first three starts, including scores in the Del Mar Futurity (G1) and FrontRunner Stakes (G1). Bolt d'Oro was the only horse among the 23 individual choices offered to finish with single-digit odds.
As typical, the top choice among the 24 wagering interests in the pool was the mutuel field—all horses not among the 23 individual choices—at 6-5.
Juvenile winner Good Magic, campaigned by e Five Racing Thoroughbreds and Stonestreet Stables, was the second individual choice at 11-1 followed by Karl Watson, Mike Pegram, and Paul Weitman's impressive maiden winner McKinzie at 12-1.

In the Kentucky Derby Sire Future Wager, where bettors are awarded if they select the sire of the 2018 Kentucky Derby winner, Medaglia d'Oro finished as the top individual choice, and at 5-1, matched the mutuel field as the favorite in the wager. Medaglia d'Oro is the sire of Bolt d'Oro as well as Enticed, who won the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (G2) Nov. 25 at Churchill Downs, and Sea Foam, winner of the Notebook Stakes Nov. 26 at Aqueduct Racetrack. Enticed is 29-1 in the Kentucky Derby Future Wager and Sea Foam was not an individual choice.
A winning $2 bet on either the field or Medaglia d'Oro would return $13.80. Just behind Medaglia d'Oro among individual sire choices is Curlin at 6-1. Curlin is the sire of both Good Magic and Solomini. Also in single-digit odds is three-time leading sire Tapit .
