Songbird, Tepin Top Fasig-Tipton Hips to Watch List

Champions Songbird and Tepin top the watch list for Fasig-Tipton November sale.

The list of horses to watch during the Fasig-Tipton November sale reads like a who's who of recent top North American distaffers, headed by champions Songbird and Tepin.

Cataloged as Hip 120 by Taylor Made Sales Agency as a broodmare prospect, Songbird is the 4-year-old daughter of Medaglia d'Oro  who won 13 of 15 career starts—including nine grade 1 stakes—and finished second in the other two outings. A champion at ages 2 and 3, Songbird earned more than $4.6 million for Rick Porter's Fox Hill Farm.

Bred in Kentucky by John Antonelli, Songbird was acquired by agent Tom McGreevy on behalf of Fox Hill Farm for $400,000 from the Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency consignment at the 2014 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling sale.

Consigned as Hip 130 by ELiTE, as agent for Robert Masterson, Tepin will be offered in foal to Curlin . A 6-year-old Bernstein mare, Tepin won grade/group 1 races in the U.S., England, and Canada and was voted champion grass mare at ages 4 and 5. She retired with earnings of more than $4.4 million. In addition to her stellar racing credentials, Tepin also is a half sister to Vyjack, a multiple grade 2 earner of more than $1.4 million to date.

Masterson bought Tepin, bred in Kentucky by Machmer Hall, for $140,000 from Select Sales at the 2012 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling sale.

Finest City, a 5-year-old daughter of City Zip, was voted champion female sprinter for 2016 after winning the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1) for Seltzer Thoroughbred. The Pennsylvania-bred mare has earned more than $1.2 million for trainer Ian Kruljac, who has her entered in the Fasig-Tipton sale as Hip 171

Catch a Glimpse (Hip 157), cataloged by Bluewater Sales as a racing/broodmare prospect, is a 4-year-old daughter of City Zip who was named 2015 Canadian Horse of the Year. At 2, she captured the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1T), and at 3 she won the Belmont Oaks Invitational Stakes (G1T). The filly, bred in Kentucky by Branch Equine, sold to Windways Farm for $75,000 by Warrendale Sales at the 2014 Keeneland yearling sale and earned more than $1.8 million on the racetrack.

Hip 102 from Claiborne Farm is Nickname, a 4-year-old daughter of the late Scat Daddy. Out of the multiple stakes-placed Borrego mare Nina Fever, she won the 2015 Frizette Stakes (G1) and was multiple graded placed during a career in which she earned $557,710.

Bred by Michael Hui in Kentucky, Nickname was acquired by Solis & Litt for $350,000 when she was offered by Upson Downs Farm at the 2014 Keeneland September yearling sale.

Rounding out the list of horses to watch during the Nov. 6 sale that begins at 4 p.m. ET is Miss Temple City (Hip 99), who defeated males twice in grade 1 company in the Maker's 46 Mile Stakes and Shadwell Turf Mile Stakes (G1T) at Keeneland in 2016. Consigned by Select Sales, agent for The Club Racing and partners, Miss Temple City won this year's Kentucky Downs Ladies Turf Stakes (G3T) to push her earnings to more than $1.6 million. A daughter of Temple City , Miss Temple City is out of the stakes-placed Artax mare Glittering Tax. She is a full sister to grade 3 winner Pricedtoperfection.

She was bred in Kentucky by Bobfeld Bloodstock.
