Three colts and two fillies are among the horses to watch during the Oct. 24 second session of the Fasig-Tipton October fall yearling sale, based on observations from consignors and buyers.
Hip 387 is a Super Saver colt from the family of champions Inside Information and Smuggler. From the Threave Main Stud consignment, the colt bred by Tony Holmes and Tim Thornton recently went through the ring at Keeneland's September yearling sale and was bought back for $95,000.
The chestnut colt was produced from the unraced Langfuhr mare Tactful Lady, a half sister to millionaire multiple grade 2 winner Gone Astray and group-placed Contentious. The colt's third dam, Inside Information, won 14 of 17 starts and was voted champion older mare and produced champion Smuggler.
Select Sales will send into the ring Hip 530, a Twirling Candy filly out of the winning Forest Wildcat mare Wild Debutante, a full sister to stakes winner Wildcat Brief. The filly bred in Kentucky by Cloyce Clark and Jay Goodwin descends from a female family that includes British group 3 winner Melrose Avenue and stakes winners Queen's Gray Bee and Dysham.
An Ontario-bred colt from the second crop of Violence is consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency as Hip 542. Bred by Gold Medal Stable and Dennis Mitchell, the colt was produced from Witch's Crown, a Cuvee mare who was grade 3-placed in Canada. The colt was bought back for $270,000 at this year's Fasig-Tipton Saratoga select yearling sale and was acquired by Taylor Made for $180,000 as a weanling at the 2016 Keeneland November sale.
Hip 641 is a chestnut daughter of Hard Spun from the family of champion Althea and Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) winner Bayern consigned by Gainesway for her Kentucky breeder, Waymore. The filly is the first foal from the unraced Smart Strike mare Archers Post and her third dam Aquilegia is a full sister to Althea.
The fifth yearling to watch Tuesday is Hip 717, a Malibu Moon colt out of Bouquet Booth, a multiple stakes-winning Flower Alley mare whose four victories include the Delta Downs Princess Stakes (G3). The colt's third dam, the stakes-winning Topsider mare Toll Fee, is the granddam of Horse of the Year Havre de Grace, Belmont Stakes (G1) winner Tonalist , and grade 1 winner Riskaverse, among others.
Consigned by Craig and Holly Bandoroff's Denali Stud, the colt was bred in Kentucky by My Meadowview.
