B. Wayne Hughes' Spendthrift Farm announced 2018 stud fees for its roster set to stand at the Lexington-based farm this upcoming breeding season, including three new stallions among the roster of 24.
Spendthrift's stallion ranks will be spearheaded by successful sire Into Mischief , whose fee has moved from $75,000 to $100,000, stands and nurses, and is booked full.
Gormley, winner of last year's FrontRunner Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita Park at 2 and this year's $1 million Santa Anita Derby (G1), retires as Malibu Moon 's only grade 1-winning 2-year-old at stud. The millionaire also joins Claiborne Farm's Orb as his sire's only multiple grade 1 winners at stud. Gormley will stand for $10,000 stands and nurses.
Lord Nelson, the three-time grade 1-winning son of Pulpit, has recovered from a battle with laminitis that caused him to miss the 2017 breeding season, and he's ready to stand his first season in 2018. Lord Nelson's fee will be $25,000 stands and nurses.
Spendthrift stalwart Malibu Moon will remain at $75,000 stands and nurses in 2018 after another banner year that has already had four grade 1 winners, including leading Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) contenders Heavenly Love, recent winner of the Darley Alcibiades Stakes (G1); and multiple grade 1 winner Moonshine Memories, winner of the Del Mar Debutante (G1) and the Chandelier Stakes (G1). Malibu Moon's other 2017 grade 1 winners include Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) contender Ransom the Moon, winner of the Bing Crosby Stakes (G1).
