Gun Runner Pointing to Pegasus After Breeders' Cup

Candy Ride colt will point to $16 million race after Breeders' Cup Classic.

Owners Winchell Thoroughbreds and Three Chimneys Farm announced Oct. 18 that Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) contender Gun Runner will point to the $16 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) Jan. 27 at Gulfstream Park after his trip to Del Mar.

In the announcement, the ownership group also said plans for Gun Runner's stud career "will be determined following the Breeders' Cup."

Other than a second-place finish behind Arrogate  in the March 25 Dubai World Cup Sponsored By Emirates Airline (G1), Gun Runner's 2017 campaign has been unblemished.

The 4-year-old Candy Ride  colt won the Razorback Handicap (G3) at Oaklawn Park to begin his season, then won a trio of grade 1 races—the Stephen Foster Handicap, Whitney Stakes, and Woodward Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets—after his trip to Dubai.

With a 10-3-2 record from 17 starts, the Steve Asmussen trainee has more than $5.6 million in earnings.
