Jockey Uriel Lopez Notches 1,000th Win

Jockey earned his milestone at Fairmount Park.

Jockey Uriel Lopez celebrated his 1,000th winner July 4, when he guided Kenneth Hutchens' homebred Peacock Man to victory in the sixth race at Fairmount Park.

Lopez was born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, in 1966.  His family came to Texas when he was 8 years old, stayed there about nine months, then came to Chicago. Since he took out his license in 1989, Lopez has ridden such stakes winners as Colorful Tour, White O Morn, Matthew's Blessing, Top Kick, and Miss Kick. One race after notching his milestone victory, he boosted his total to 1,001 wins when he rode the gelding Mighty Gideon to victory in the seventh race at Fairmount.

Both Mighty Gideon and Peacock Man are trained by Jerry Hammond.
