Fasig-Tipton Horses of Racing Age Sale Offers Diversity

Entries will continue to be accepted until the July 10 sale.

So far a diverse group of 106 horses is cataloged for the Fasig-Tipton July selected horses of racing age sale July 10 in Lexington. The sale at the Newtown Paddocks begins at 5 p.m. (EDT).

The interactive catalog is now available online and Fasig-Tipton will continue to accept nominations until sale time.

Established in 2013, the sale's graduates include 2015 TwinSpires Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1) winner Wavell Avenue, as well as graded stakes winners Squadron A, Fear the Cowboy, Fioretti, Point Piper, Bullards Alley, and Dramedy .

"This is our fifth year conducting the horses of racing age sale, and we feel that this is our strongest catalog to date," said Fasig-Tipton president Boyd Browning. "The sale has attracted entries from several of the most prominent racing stables in the country, and buyers will find a number of turn-key, quality offerings no matter their budget.

"Since this sale was first held in 2013, sale graduates have made more than 3,500 starts for their new owners, earning more than $19 million," Browning continued. "The sale has also produced 25% stakes horses and more than 40 stakes wins."

Among the most recent stakes winners in the catalog is Happy Mesa, a daughter of Sky Mesa  who won the Hilltop Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in near course-record time of 1:33 3/5. The 3-year-old filly, who also won the Selima Stakes at age 2, is out of stakes-placed Happy Choice and from the family of grade 1 Test Stakes winner Missed the Storm as well as champion Hall of Famer Chris Evert.

Happy Mesa is among a large group from the recently formed Elite Sales agency of Bradley Weisbord and Liz Crow.

Taylor Made Sales Agency's consignment includes multiple graded stakes winner Made You Look, a 3-year-old son of More Than Ready  who annexed this year's Dania Beach Stakes (G3T) on the turf at Gulfstream Park and took last year's With Anticipation Stakes (G2T) on the turf at Saratoga Race Course.

In addition to his accomplishments, the colt descends from a top female family, with champion Serena's Song his second dam. The winner of 11 grade 1 stakes among her 18 career victories, Serena's Song has produced six stakes winners, including grade 1 winner Sophisticat, grade 2 winner and sire Grand Reward, and graded stakes winners Harlington and Schramsberg.

Another Saratoga graded stakes winner from Taylor Made is Bitumen, who closed with a powerful rally to win the 2016 Sanford Stakes (G3). The 3-year-old Mineshaft  colt is a half brother to stakes winner Meshell and is out of an unraced half sister to four-time grade 1 winner and sire Quality Road .

Pussycat Doll, a three-time grade 1-winning daughter of Real Quiet, is represented by two colts consigned to the sale by Craig and Holly Bandoroff's Denali Stud. Aquaphobia is a 4-year-old son of Giant's Causeway  who won the Stanton Stakes at Delaware Park, while Musical America is a winning 3-year-old son of Malibu Moon .

Consigned by Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency, Whiskey Ticket is a 5-year-old son of Ghostzapper  who won the 2015 Illinois Derby (G3). The lightly raced horse is from the family of three-time grade 1 winner Manistique and grade 1 winner Unbridled Command.

Included in the offerings of WinStar Racing, which consistently is among the leading consignors of race horses to fall sales and has its first Fasig-Tipton HRA consignment, is Hedge Fund, a half brother to grade 2 winner Stanford . A 3-year-old son of Super Saver , Hedge Fund has won or placed in three of five starts, including a second-place effort in this year's Illinois Derby and a third in the Sunland Derby (both G3).

Other stakes winners in the catalog include mare Distinta, winner of this year's Inside Information Stakes (G2) from the family of grade 1 winner Purim; Closing Bell, a son of Tapit  who won the Dueling Grounds Derby and finished second in the Secretariat Stakes (G1T); Lori's Store, a multiple stakes-winning daughter of El Prado; King Kranz, a stakes-winning, grade 2-placed son of Munnings ; Bronson, a stakes winner this year at age 3 and a half brother to two grade 2 winners; and Adorable Miss.

Another notable entrant is Zulu, who showed Triple Crown potential early last year and finished second in the Xpressbet.com Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) before an unplaced effort as the favorite in the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (G1). Following an eight-month layoff after the Blue Grass, the son of Bernardini  won the Tamarac Stakes before finishing second in the this year's Skip Away Stakes (G2).

The sale's enhanced online catalog features pedigrees, race videos, statistical links, Ragozin "sheet" numbers, real-time past performances, as well as an assessment of each horse by the Daily Racing Form's national handicapper Mike Watchmaker.

Prospective buyers also may sign up for email alerts through Fasig-Tipton's website to receive pedigree and race-record updates, as well as notifications of new sale entries as they are accepted up until sale time.

The July selected horses of racing age catalog also will be available via the equineline sales catalog app. Print catalogs will be available on the sales grounds by July 7.
