Bare Necessities, winner of the 2003 Sixty Sails Handicap at Hawthorne Race Course, will look to make it two years in a row when she returns to the Illinois track for the grade III, 1 1/8-mile event for fillies and mares April 24.Owned by Iron Country Farms, Bare Necessities has won eight races, six of them stakes. Three of the stakes were grade III events: the Indiana Breeders' Cup Oaks at Hoosier Park in 2002, and the Gardenia Stakes at Ellis Park and Sixty Sails in 2003.Trained by Wally Dollase, the 5-year-old mare by Silver Deputy began her 2004 campaign with a victory Jan. 16 in the Paseana Handicap at Santa Anita Park. She followed up with a second-place finish Feb. 16 in the Santa Maria Handicap (gr. I) at Santa Anita behind Star Parade.In her last start March 14, Bare Necessities finished third in another grade I stakes at Santa Anita, the Santa Margarita Invitational Handicap. Adoration, winner of the 2003 Breeders' Cup Distaff, and Star Parade finished first and second in that event.Bred by Iron Country Farms in Kentucky, Bare Necessities has banked $864,911. She has finished first, second, or third in 15 of her 20 starts thus far.
