Union Rags' Fee Increases For 2017

Top freshman sire and Belmont Stakes (gr. I) winner will stand for $50,000.

With a solid position atop the leading freshman sire list, Union Rags  has had his stud fee raised to from $35,000 in 2016 to $50,000 for the 2017 breeding season, according Lane's End. William S. Farish's farm near Versailles, Ky., released the fees for its full roster Nov. 6. 

Union Rags (by Dixie Union) leads all freshman sires with $1,100,211 in progeny earnings and is tied with Gemologist  with two graded stakes winners each. 

Other stallions with adjustments in their fees included Twirling Candy , currently the third-leading second-crop sire by progeny earnings and the second-leading sire of his class with nine black-type stakes winners. The son of Candy Ride had his fee bumped to $20,000 from $15,000 for 2016. Candy Ride also stands at Lane's End, commanding the top fee of $60,000, which is unchanged.

City Zip (Carson City) had his fee bumped to $50,000 from $40,000. He is currently ninth on the general leading sire list with more than $9.5 million in progeny earnings. He has six graded stakes winners so far this year, including two grade I stakes winners. He was represented at the Breeders' Cup by Filly & Mare Sprint (gr. I) winner Finest City, who was the sire's fourth Breeders' Cup winner in the last three years.

The fees on the remainder of the sires on Lane's End's roster are unchanged. The farm will be holding a stallion open house Nov. 7-11 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. each day.
