With Arrogate’s scintillating victory over Horse of the Year California Chrome in the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I) fresh in the minds of buyers, the dams of both horses are among the top horses to watch during Fasig-Tipton’s November sale.
The Nov. 7 sale in Lexington, for which 177 horses are cataloged, begins at 5 pm. ET.
Bubbler, the 10-year-old daughter of Distorted Humor whose first foal is 3-year-old Travers Stakes (gr. I) winner Arrogate, was not shipped to the Fasig-Tipton sales grounds until Nov. 6 because the mare’s status in the sale was uncertain, according to Barry Robinette, general manager of consignor Clearsky Farms.
“We were winging it. So it really wasn’t definite until last night; we just brought her over this morning,” Robinette said, as he showed off the mare glistening in the bright Bluegrass sunshine. “She’s probably worth as much as she’s ever going to be worth right now, so it’s good timing. It’s a good selling point.
“She’s really a nice (horse)—put together well,” Robinette said of the mare being sold in foal to Into Mischief . “She’s a little dominant. The first one to get to the gate.”
In addition to being the dam of Arrogate, Bubbler won six of her nine starts, including three stakes wins, and has a solid female family that includes champion filly Meadow Star as her second dam.
Consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, California Chrome’s dam, the Not For Love mare Love the Chase, is in foal to leading sire Tapit . A son of Lucky Pulpit who is also his dam’s first foal, California Chrome was Horse of the Year and champion 3-year-old when he won the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum Brands (gr. I) and Preakness Stakes (gr. I) in 2014 and has won 15 of 25 races.
Consigned by Bluewater Sales, agent, Curalina won the Acorn (gr. I) and Coaching Club American Oaks (gr. I) last year, and the La Troienne (gr. I) this year en route to earning more than $1.5 million. The 4-year-old Curlin filly arrived at Fasig-Tipton Sunday after finishing sixth in the Nov. 4 Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff (gr. I) at Santa Anita Park.
Cathryn Sophia, a Street Boss filly who won this year’s Longines Kentucky Oaks (gr. I), has a 6-0-3 record from nine starts and earnings of $1,229,720 and was withdrawn from Breeders’ Cup consideration after developing a high white-blood-cell count.
Consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, Off the Tracks is a 3-year-old daughter of Curlin who was a graded stakes winner at Saratoga Race Course at age 2 and this year won the grade I Mother Goose Stakes. She finishing second in the Acorn, and third in the Test (gr. I) and Gulfstream Park Oaks (gr. II).
