Mshawish Tops Taylor Made Roster, For Now

California Chrome's stud fee to be set after BC Classic.

For now, Taylor Made Stallions' 2017 stallion roster is led by its entering-year sire Mshawish , a multiple grade I winner who will stand his first season for $20,000.

The son of Medaglia d'Oro's fee was announced Oct. 25 along with breeding fees for the rest of the farm's stallions that include freshman sire Astrology , first-crop yearling sire Graydar , and veteran Northern Afleet . Soon enough the spotlight will shine brightest on the farm's other marquee stallion, California Chrome  (Lucky Pulpit ), whose introductory stud fee will be announced after he runs in the Nov. 5 Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) at Santa Anita Park.

"These are very exciting times at Taylor Made Stallions," said Ben Taylor, vice president of Taylor Made Stallions. "We could not be happier to have the opportunity to grow our stallion roster with the likes of two new multiple grade I winners of the caliber of Mshawish and California Chrome. Our entire staff is energized and ready to get to work in serving the breeders this upcoming breeding season."

An earner of $2,421,351, Mshawish (pronounced em-SHUH-wish) retired to Taylor Made Stallions as his sire's most accomplished  son to date, with five graded stakes wins among seven  stakes victories. He won grade Is on  dirt and turf. He earned a 106 Beyer Speed Figure in his victory in the Donn Handicap (gr. I), his third lifetime start on the dirt, and the year before captured the Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap (gr. IT), in which he produced a 104 Beyer. Mshawish retired with an 8-2-3 record in 24 starts. Besides winning five stakes in the U.S. for Al Shaqab Racing, he also won stakes in France and Dubai.

Graydar heads the established stallions on Taylor Made's roster, as the imposing grade I-winning son of Unbridled's Song will stand in 2017 for a fee of $12,500 stands and nurses. Also a winner of the Donn , Graydar has his first 2-year-olds hitting the racetrack next year. His yearling fillies sold for up to $250,000 and his yearling colts up to $210,000 in 2016.

Taylor Made Stallions has two stallions standing at the value-based fee of $6,500 again in 2017 with Astrology and Northern Afleet.

Astrology, a son of A.P. Indy, was a graded stakes winner at 2 and finished third in the Preakness Stakes (gr. I) at 3. He has nine winners to date from his first crop to race and is one of five freshman stallions leading their sire class with two black-type winners each through Oct. 24. His debutante Arella Rockstar recently remained undefeated after a victory in the Matron Stakes (gr. III) at Belmont Park.

Northern Afleet enjoyed another solid year in 2016, siring six graded winners on three different continents including World Approval, who became his 12th lifetime grade I winner in the United Nations Stakes (gr. IT).
