The big initiatives of the past year in pari-mutuel horse racing will be featured at the 24th annual International Simulcast Conference Sept. 26-28 in New Orleans as Betfair US & TVG CEO Kip Levin, Equibase President Jason Wilson, and NYRA Senior Director of Television Dan Silver will present extensive reviews of product launches.
Levin will lead a presentation on the introduction of exchange wagering to a United States audience in New Jersey and the potential for this form of wagering, which has been hugely popular in the rest of the world. Wilson and Ellis Starr, national analyst for Equibase, will provide the most thorough examination to date of the revolutionary STATS Race Lens data system. NYRA's nationally syndicated 21/2 hour daily show Saratoga Live will be reviewed by Silver.
The deadline for both conference registration and hotel reservations at Harrah's New Orleans Hotel is September 9. You can access more information and the registration form on the TRA website: www.tra-online.com/conference
The first conference session on Monday afternoon will feature representatives of Betfair who will give a comprehensive presentation about the recent introduction of exchange wagering in New Jersey, including the regulatory challenges and cooperation from horsemen.
Tuesday's topics will include lower takeout and its ramifications, coupled vs. uncoupled entries and their effect on purse and pool size, and an in-depth look at Equibase's new handicapping tool STATS Race Lens, which will allow the racing fan to test theories, customize past performance data and use predictive modeling to generate win probabilities.
On Wednesday morning, Curtis Linnell and Laura Horah of TRPB will use the final session to give an update on the TRPB's Tote Security System and a recent initiative to reduce odds cycle times.
The annual event is co-sponsored by the Thoroughbred Racing Associations (TRA) and Harness Tracks of America (HTA).
