Wachtel Stables and George Kerr's Long On Value had won his only other start at 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf in 2013, and July 25 at Saratoga Race Course he made it two-for-two with a victory in the $100,000 Lucky Coin Stakes.
Bred in Virginia by Snow Lantern Thoroughbreds, the 5-year-old horse by Value Plus out of the Orientate mare Long Message is a graded stakes winner going one mile or more on the grass. But his come-from-behind win in the Lucky Coin, which he won in 1:01.76 on a course rated firm, indicates he may be a better sprinter.
Ridden by Joel Rosario for trainer Bill Mott, Long On Value defeated Florida shipper Successful Native, who had won back-to-back stakes at five furlongs on grass at Gulfstream Park, by a length. It was another three-quarters of a length to favored Undrafted, who made his first start since his a sixth-place finish in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes (Eng-I) at Royal Ascot in June.
Long On Value, who paid $8.80 to win in a field of seven, won the Jamestown Stakes for Virginia-bred 2-year-olds at 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf at defunct Colonial Downs. Last year he finished third in the grade I Makers 46 Mile on the turf at Keeneland, and so far has banked $673,118 in 22 starts.
