G. G. Ryder Seeks All American Repeat

Chhaya Dance horse won last year's event over stablemate Outside Nashville.

George Todaro and Jerry Hollendorfer's G. G. Ryder will seek his second straight All American Stakes (gr. III) victory May 30 at Golden Gate Fields.

The 5-year-old son of Chhaya Dance, trained by Hollendorfer, rallied from off the pace to win the 2015 edition of the mile contest over the Golden Gate main track, 1 1/4 lengths ahead stablemate Outside Nashville, a 6-year-old Broken Vow  gelding who will also return for another run in the All American.

LEWYN: G. G. Ryder Swoops to All American Win

HnR Nothhaft Horse Racing's Southern California-based synthetics specialist Living The Life, the only female in the field of 12, looms as a potential threat. Eight of the Footstepsinthesand mare's nine victories have been over synthetic footing, including back-to-back victories in the 2014 and 2015 Presque Isle Downs Masters (gr. III) for trainer Gary Mandella. She also has a win in her lone Golden Gate start, the 2015 Camilla Urso Stakes, but she's winless in four starts at the mile distance.

Poshsky earned his lone graded win on the Golden Gate synthetic back in November at the Bay Area racetrack when he defeated G. G. Ryder (third by three-quarters of a length) in the Berkeley Handicap (gr. III), but hasn't finished better than fourth in five starts since, all over turf or dirt in Southern California.

The remaining graded winner in the field is grade I winner Tamarando . That grade I came as a 2-year-old in 2013, however, over the synthetic in the Del Mar Futurity (gr. I). The 5-year-old Bertrando horse last won in the 2014 El Camino Real Derby (gr. III) at Golden Gate.

Graded stakes placed Blue Tone, stakes winner Star Student, stakes-placed Eagle Screams, allowance winners Docs Legacy and Southern Freedom, and maiden victor Eckersley complete the field.
