Older Fillies and Mares to Contest Gallorette

Grade III grass stake on the Preakness Stakes undercard.

The $150,000 Gallorette Handicap (gr. III) on the May 21 Preakness Stakes undercard at Pimlico Race Course has drawn a field of 12, including some proven graded stakes winners.

The 1 1/16-mile turf test is the 10th race on the card and all starters carry 118 pounds.

The most experienced mare in the field, with a 10-10-9 record from 48 starts and earnings of $516,707 is Charles J. Reed’s Monster Sleeping. The 7-year-old daughter of Oratory usually assumes a stalking position before making a late move, which worked to perfection in the mare’s first start of 2016 as the 6-5 favorite in allowance/optional claiming company at Laurel Park April 3.

Trained by Dale Capuano, Monster Sleeping has three stakes victories to her credit, including two editions of the Maryland Million Ladies Stakes.

Dixiana Farms homebred Tiger Ride is dropping in company after finishing second in the Inside Information Stakes (gr. II) over the main track at Gulfstream Park and sixth in Tepin’s impressive Jenny Wiley Stakes (gr. IT) at Keeneland.

Trained by Graham Motion, the 4-year-old daughter of Candy Ride  won stakes last year, including the grade III Pin Oak Valley View at Keeneland, and has been on top in five of 11 career starts while earning $373,430.

Bill and Vicki Poston Racing's Ol' Fashion Gal won the Jimmy Durante Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Del Mar two years ago and Woodbine's garde III Selene Stakes last yaer before an absence of more than a year from competition. The 4-year-old Sky Mesa  filly trained by Mark Casse finished second in allowance company at 1 1/16 miles on grass at Keeneland in her return.
