Canadian Champion Silken Cat Dies at 23

Daughter of Storm Cat is the dam of Speightstown.

Silken Cat, the Canadian champion 2-year-old filly of 1995 and dam of Speightstown  died March 15 at the age of 23, Taylor Made Farm reported March 18 on its Facebook page.

The daughter of Storm Cat was undefeated in three starts at Woodbine in 1995, including a 3 1/4-length score in the Mazarine Stakes, and made a significant impact as a broodmare.

"A treasure of the elite broodmare band of Aaron and Marie Jones, (Silken Cat) passed peacefully in her paddock on March 15. ... She produced (11) foals that sold for a combined total of (more than $8.5 million) through the sales ring as yearlings." the Taylor Made social media post said.

Her youngest son, by Tiznow , sold at the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co.'s March sale for $300,000.
