California Chrome Back Breezing in Dubai

Lucky Pulpit colt covered a half-mile in :48.

He may have been half a world away when California Chrome  recorded his first breeze March 6 since scoring a victory in a Dubai handicap Feb. 25, but Art Sherman got a good report from his son and assistant Alan Sherman about the half-mile run.

"He went a half in :48 and seems to be right on his toes," the elder Sherman said of his workout session for the March 26 Dubai World Cup (UAE-I). "Alan just said (exercise rider Dihigi Gladney) worked him handily."

ANGST: Another Shining Victory for California Chrome

Sherman added that they don't have to do too much in training with the son of Lucky Pulpit leading into the World Cup, because the 1 1/4-mile handicap laid a good foundation as a prep.

"It was just what I wanted," the trainer said. "He was under wraps the whole time and we don't have to do much with him now. He's got that mile and a quarter in him, so we just have to keep him happy and fresh, and don't have to get into him too much."
