Wagering on Valentin Bukhtoyarov and Evgeny Kappushev's unbeaten Polar River has been suspended in Churchill Downs' upcoming Kentucky Oaks Future Wager after a representative of trainer Doug Watson confirmed to track officials that the Dubai-based filly would not travel to the U.S. to compete in the May 6 Kentucky Oaks (gr. I).
The defection of Polar River (No. 16), a daughter of Congrats whose four career wins at Dubai's Meydan Racecourse include the UAE Oaks Sponsored by Emirates (UAE-III) and the UAE 1000 Guineas, leaves the three-day Kentucky Oaks Future Wager pool with 23 wagering interests that features 22 individual 3-year-old fillies and the mutuel field (No. 24), or "All Others."
Betting in the three-day Kentucky Oaks Future pool is scheduled to begin March 11 at noon (all times Eastern) and conclude March 13 at 6:30 p.m., 30 minutes after the close of the companion Kentucky Derby Future Wager.
