Lady Eli recorded her first work since recovering from laminitis the morning of Feb. 29 when the daughter of Divine Park went three furlongs in :38 4/5 at Palm Meadows Training Center in South Florida. The work was the slowest of 10 recorded at the distance.
Lady Eli, trained by Chad Brown, returned to the track for the first time in mid-December.
Sheep Pond Partners' 4-year-old Lady Eli has not started since her 2 3/4-length score in the Belmont Oaks Invitational Stakes (gr. IT) July 4, 2015. Following her victory Lady Eli stepped on a nail with her left front foot walking back to Brown's barn from the test barn.
The nail was removed, but about a week later Lady Eli began showing laminitic changes in her right front foot, which she had been favoring. Afterwards, the left foot also began showing signs of laminitis.
Out of Sacre Coeur, by Saint Ballado, Lady Eli was bred by Runnymede Farm and Catesby Clay. She is unbeaten in six starts and has earned $1,449,800.
Lady Eli also won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (gr. IT), Miss Grillo Stakes (gr. IIIT), and Appalachian Stakes Presented by Japan Racing Association (gr. IIIT).
