Mare In Foal to Scat Daddy Brings $210,000

Medaglia d'Oro mare purchased by Green Lantern Stables.

Maggie d'Oro, a 6-year-old mare in foal to the late stallion Scat Daddy, was purchased by Green Lantern Stables for $210,000 to become the top-priced offering during the early portion of the Fasig-Tipton winter mixed sale's first session Feb. 8.

Consigned by Select Sales, as agent, the unraced daughter of Medaglia d'Oro  was bred in Kentucky by Map Mare Partnership and is a half sister to multiple grade III winner Gaff.

Maggie d'Oro is in foal to Scat Daddy, Ashford Stud's former leading freshman sire who died in December, on an April 16, 2015, last cover.

Patrick Masson, who signed the ticket, said the final price "was a bit iffy" but he went that high because she was in foal to Scat Daddy. He said he liked the mare's female family and was also attracted to her because she is a daughter of Medaglia d'Oro.

"I think Medaglia d'Oro is going to be a really good broodmare sire," he said.

Masson, who said Green Lantern's business model is to sell colts and race the fillies, said Maggie d'Oro will be bred to Paynter  after she foals this year.
