Santa Anita Jocks Add Height for Annual Hoops Contest

(from Santa Anita notes)
In an effort to snap a two-game losing streak, the Santa Anita jockeys will put a new and improved lineup on the floor when they play Holy Angels School in their annual basketball game Feb. 26 at La Salle High School in Pasadena.

"We've got some new recruits thanks to some new riders from out of town, so we should be improved," said team captain Kent Desormeaux, the riders' leading scorer.

"With Kevin Krigger and Kerwin John, we've added some height," Desormeaux said. "Plus, I've been working with them and ssessing their skills. For the first time in three years, I think we've got some players who understand the give-and-go and can set a pick or two."

Luis Jauregui and David Nuesch also have signed on to play.

HRTV host Kurt Hoover will coach the jockeys, while track commentator Trevor Denman will be the public address announcer for the 7:15 p.m. game.
