Nyquist, Mor Spirit Work at Santa Anita

Champion 2-year-old male is targeting the San Vicente Stakes (gr. II).

Nyquist , the morning after securing the Eclipse Award as champion 2-year-old male of 2015, worked five furlongs on Santa Anita Park's fast main track Jan. 17 in 1:00 4/5.

The unbeaten son of Uncle Mo , trained by Doug O'Neill for Reddam Racing, is preparing for his 3-year-old debut in the $200,000 San Vicente Stakes (gr. II) at seven furlongs Feb. 15.

"The work was as good as Doug likes to have it," said O'Neill's assistant, Leandro Mora. "He went out (to six furlongs) in (1:14) and galloped out (to seven furlongs) in 1:28. It was very good."

Also working for his 3-year-old debut was Mor Spirit, winner Los Alamitos Futurity (gr.I). Under regular rider Gary Stevens, the son of Eskendereya owned by Michael Lund Petersen covered five furlongs in 1:01 flat as he prepares for the Robert B. Lewis Stakes (gr. III) at 1 1/16 miles Feb. 6.

"It was a good work," said Bob Baffert's assistant, Jimmy Barnes. "Gary loved it."
