Weil, founder of Gestut Etzean, Dies at 88

German stud stood prominent German sire Dashing Blade.

Heinz Weil, founder of the successful German stud Gestut Etzean, has died at the age of 88, Racing Post reports.
Gestut Etzean bred a number of top-class horses, including a pair of Preis der Diana (Ger-I) winners in Night Magic (2009) and Feodora (2014), the latter as a homebred.
Gestut Etzean also bred Don Cossack, currently Racing Post's internationally top-rated Nation Hunt horse. He and Night Magic are by Sholokhov, who formerly stood at Gestut Etzean.
The stud also stood leading German sire Dashing Blade until his death in 2013, and currently stand's son Lord of England, sire of Feodora.
