Rousing Sermon, California's champion 2-year-old of 2011, has been retired and will stand in 2016 at Rancho San Miguel.
The 6-year-old son of Lucky Pulpit—Rousing Again, by Awesome Again , will stand as the property of Mr. and Mrs. Larry D. Williams for a first-year fee of $2,000 live foal.
An earner of $821,572, Rousing Sermon won the 2011 Bob Benoit California Cup Juvenile Stakes at Santa Anita Park and before a close second in the CashCall Futurity (gr. I) at Hollywood Park.
Winning from six furlongs to 1 1/16 miles, Rousing Sermon compiled a 6-7-7 career line from 36 starts that include thirds in both the 2012 Robert B. Lewis and the Louisiana Derby (both gr. II) at age 3 and third in the Native Diver Stakes (gr. III) at age 4.
"Rousing Sermon was a horse with heart and determination to compete and win in the upper levels of racing," said Clay Murdock, manager of Rancho San Miguel. "He is an attractive and balanced horse with a beautiful stride. We are expecting a load of inquires due to the overwhelming success his sire line has shown and the fact that Rousing Sermon had the quality to sprint and route."
