Medaglia d'Oro Tops Darley's 2016 Fees

Operation has released next year's fees for its 14 North American stallions.

Medaglia d'Oro  will command a $150,000 fee next year as he heads Darley's Northern American roster of 14 stallions for 2016, the operation announced Oct. 27.
Medaglia d'Oro, who has sired 14 lifetime grade/group I winners, stood in 2015 for $125,000.
The stallion's offspring Songbird and Mshawish  have both been victorious at the highest level in 2015 and are entered in the Breeders' Cup 14 Hands Winery Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) and Mile (gr. IT), respectively. Medaglia d'Oro has three other runners on World Championships weekend in Sentiero Italia, Filly and Mare Turf, gr. IT; Yahilwa, Longines Distaff (gr. I), and Valid, Las Vegas Dirt Mile (gr. I). A Medaglia d'Oro colt sold for  $1.1 million at the Keeneland September yearling sale.
Bernardini , whose 2016 fee is set at $100,000, up from $85,000 last year, has sired four top-level winners (second only to Tapit ), all of whom are headed to the Breeders' Cup: Rachel's Valentina, Juvenile Fillies; Greenpointcrusader , Sentient Jet Juvenile (gr. I); while Dame Dorothy and Cavorting, along with grade II winner Fioretti, meet in the TwinSpires Filly and Mare Sprint (gr. I). Bernardini was also responsible for America's highest-priced yearling filly of 2015 at $1.5 million.
Hard Spun  and Street Sense  also both have runners in this year's Breeders' Cup and will stand for $45,000 each, up from the $35,000 each stood for in 2015
Each of Hard Spun's three grade I winners this year will head to Keeneland: Smooth Roller, winner of the recent grade I Awesome Again Stakes, Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) along with Hard Aces; while two-time 2015 grade I winner Hard Not to Like, Filly and Mare Turf (gr. IT). Wicked Strong , Dirt Mile; and Big John B, Longines Turf (gr. IT). Street Sense's daughter Wedding Toast, who has won consecutive grade I's in the Ogden Phipps and Beldame, will line up in the Distaff.

The fee for Animal Kingdom , the 2011 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum Brands (gr. I) and 2013 Emirates Airline Dubai World Cup (UAE-I) winner who finished second in the 2012 Breeders' Cup Mile,  remains at $35,000.

Grade I winner Girolamo among the leading freshman sires this year with 14 winners, including grade I-placed She's All Ready, is now in Kentucky after beginning his career at Sequel Stallions in New York and will stand for $15,000.

At least 22 Darley America-sired runners are due to appear at Keeneland this weekend, a list that also includes Holy Boss  in the Sprint (by Street Boss , fee $12,500 in 2016), Lady Shipman in the Longines Turf Sprint (gr. IT) (Midshipman , $8,500 fee); and Salama in the Distaff (Desert Party , $4,000 fee). Desert Party will be standing at Sequel Stallions in New York along with Bernardini's grade I-winning son Alpha  ($8,500 fee) and fellow grade winner Emcee ($5,000 fee).

"It is very rewarding for us to see such tremendous success this year for breeders who have used our stallions," said Darren Fox, sales manager at Darley in America. "Medaglia d'Oro and Bernardini continue to reach new heights both on the track and in the sales ring, while Hard Spun and Street Sense continue to go from strength to strength. Seeing Animal Kingdom's foals developing like they are is very exciting.

"This year alone, we have seen more than 75 stakes winners from our nine sires with foals 3-year-olds and up and consignors have realized well over $50 million at the yearling and 2-year-old sales. In addition, our relationship with Becky Thomas at Sequel has seen Girolamo garner great success with his first crop of New York-bred foals, and we are very excited about what the future holds for our young stallions Alpha and Emcee."
