"The new format has taken a while for our customers to get used to," said Engelhardt. "We are starting to see a turnaround in the last two weeks and hopefully that trend will continue through the end of live racing on Labor Day."
A change in post times to 5:00 p.m. (ET) for Friday through Monday has had a negative effect on River Downs and officials at the Cincinnati, Ohio track have announced that the $125,000 River Downs Breeders' Cup will be cancelled this season. The race was scheduled to be run on July 16. The new post time went into effect May 19."To preserve the integrity of our daily racing program we felt that the purse money would be put to better use by infusing it into our day-to-day purse schedule," said track publicist John Engelhardt. "We've had a great run with the Breeders' Cup for 14 years and the race attracted top horses and riders. Hopefully we can bring it back at a future date."
