Three-year-old Giant's Causeway edged 4-year-old Kalanisi by a head to win the Coral-Eclipse Stakes (Eng-I) Saturday at Sandown Park. 5-year-old Shiva finished 2 1/2 lengths farther back in third, 1 1/2 lengths ahead of post-time favorite Sakhee.Sakhee took the lead with two furlongs to run before Giant's Causeway, under George Duffield, surged to the front. Kalanisi assumed a short lead near the wire, but Giant's Causeway rallied again to re-take the lead at the wire. 3-year-old Giant's Causeway completed the 1 1/4 miles in 2:05.32 while running on good turf, listed as good to firm in places.Giant's Causeway (Storm Cat--Mariah's Storm, by Rahy) won the St. James Palace Stakes (Eng- I) at Ascot in June after finishing second in both the Sagitta Two Thousand Guineas (Eng-I) and the Entenmann's Irish Two Thousand Guineas (Ire-I). The Coral-Eclipse marks the first start at a distance greater than a mile for the Aidan O'Brien trainee. He was bred by Orpendale and Micheal Tabor and is owned by Tabor and Mrs. John Magnier. Saturday's win improves his career record to six wins from eight starts.
