Notable Career drew off on the turn en route to a four-length victory over Sea Reel in the $108,400 Landaluce Stakes (gr. III) Saturday at Hollywood Park. The Golden Eagle Farm's homebred filly completed the six furlongs in 1:11.10 over a fast track.
Notable Career raced in third just after the break but rushed up on the inside to take the lead, running the first quarter in :21.58 under Corey Nakatani. The Bob Baffert trainee was challenged by Magic Madam, opened up a clear lead as they rounded the turn, and increased that lead to the wire.
"She's a special filly," said Nakatani, who has been aboard for all of her starts. "You've got to come out running when you're stuck down inside, but she's a good enough filly to do it. And this filly, she gives you every indication that she's going to love a route. She's like Silverbulletday. She has a big, long stride and I really believe she's going to be very tough in longer races."
Sea Reel finished a length ahead of third-place Starrer. Euro Empire came home fourth, followed by stablemate Bar Breeze, and Magic Madam. Prospective Angel was pulled up and vanned off.
Notable Career was bred in California and is by Avenue of Flags and out of Excellent Lady, dam of Sempra Energy Hollywood Gold Cup (gr. I) morning-line favorite General Challenge. She finished second, beaten by a nose, in her debut race before winning her next start by 12 lengths. The Landaluce marks her third career start and second win. She earned $65,040 for the win.
The odds-on choice in the wagering, Notable Career returned $3, $2.10, and $2.10. The winning $1 exacta combination paid $8.40. (Chart, Equibase
