Champion Mare Height of Fashion Dies at 21

Prominent broodmare Height of Fashion, whose five stakes winners includes dual English classic winner Nashwan, died on July 29 at Sheikh Hamdan's Shadwell Farm near Lexington because of complications from the infirmities of old age. Owned by Shadwell, the 21-year-old mare produced 11 named foals.

Height of Fashion (Bustino—Highclere, by Queen's Hussar) was England's champion juvenile filly in 1981 and was the second highweighted filly as a 3-year-old in that country. Her third foal, Nashwan, won the 1989 English Derby (Eng-I) and Two Thousand Guineas (Eng-I), plus the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond (Eng-I) and Coral-Eclipse (Eng-I) Stakes. He stands at stud at Shadwell Stud in England.

Height of Fashion's other stakes winners are Alwasmi, French champion Unfuwain, Mukddaam, and Sarayir. She was in foal to A.P. Indy at the time of her death.
