American Century Breezes Toward Special

Peachtree Stable's American Century breezed five furlongs for trainer Todd Pletcher Sunday morning, completing the distance in 1:02 2/5 over a muddy track at Saratoga. The 2-year-old, who won a Sartoga maiden race by 7 1/4 lengths, will run next in the $150,000 Saratoga Special (gr. II) on Wednesday at Saratoga. American Century ran on Lasix for the first time in his maiden win after finishing second in a Belmont Park maiden race in June. "I think he's gotten good experience out of those two races and he seems to like the track," said Pletcher.

City Zip is the likely favorite for the Special, coming into the race out of victories in the Tremont (gr. III) and Sanford (gr. II). Trained by Linda Rice, City Zip will be guided by Jose Santos from post position three.

The field for the 6 1/2-furlong Special, with jockeys and weights, will consist of:

1--Strait Cat, Jerry Bailey, 114
2--Zone Judge, Jorge Chavez, 114
3--City Zip, Jose Santos, 122
4--Standard Speed, Camillo Pitty, 117
5--Jacksrbetter, Edgar Prado, 122
6--Scorpion, Pat Day, 114
7--American Century, Shane Sellers, 114
8--Brocco Bob, Mike Smith, 114
