Squirtle Squirt Heads Best Pal Stakes

Joe Garcia Jr. trainee Squirtle Squirt will put his four-race winning streak on the line when he takes on six other 2-year-olds in the $150,000 Best Pal Stakes (gr. III) Wednesday at Del Mar. In his most recent start, Laffit Pincay Jr. guided Squirtle Squirt to a two-length victory in the Hollywood Juvenile Championship Stakes (gr. III) in July. The son of Marquetry also has wins in two listed stakes, the Willard L. Proctor Memorial Stakes and the Haggin Stakes. Squirtle Squirt will start from post position five in the Best Pal.

Other horses of note entered in the Best Pal include Godolphin Racing's E Dubai and Flame Thrower. The latter is a Bob Baffert-trained Saint Ballado colt who won his debut race in fast time on opening day of the Del Mar meet.
