Under jockey Corey Nakatani, 8-5 favorite Love That Red used an inside stalking trip to win the $150,000 Pat O'Brien Handicap (gr. II) Sunday at Del Mar. The 4-year-old gelding stopped the timer after seven furlongs run in 1:21.89 over a fast track to complete his eighth win from 17 career races. Cliquot finished second, followed by Son of a Pistol, Grady, and Elaborate. Love That Red is a homebred for owner Terry D. Wells and is currently trained by Bob Baffert. The Pat O'Brien marks the first stakes win for the son of Highland Park -- out of the Circle Home mare Pat's Lady Red -- since he was switched to Baffert's barn earlier this year. While conditioned by Leonard Duncan, Love That Red won several California-bred restricted stakes, as well as the 1999 Malibu Stakes (gr. I) and the 1999 Lazaro Barrera Memorial Stakes.
