Artax is to be paraded at Saratoga after the fourth race Saturday at approximately 2:15 p.m. (EDT).Owned by Ernie Paragallo, Artax won the 1999 Eclipse Award as top sprinter after a season during which he broke or equaled track records held by some of racing's elite runners, including Dr. Fager.
Artax, winner of the 1999 Breeders' Cup Sprint, will not be back for the 2000 edition of the race, trainer Louis Albertrani announced Friday. Artax, who serviced 93 mares this season at Clermont Farm near Germantown, N.Y., returned to training this summer."He has been officially retired," Albertrani said. "He has had some minor setbacks that have interfered with his training schedule. Right now, he's still with us at Saratoga, but arrangements will soon be finalized regarding when he will be sent to Louisville."Artax will stand at Taylor Made Farm near Lexington for a fee of $30,000.
