Nine 2-year-old fillies were entered in the $200,000 Spinaway Stakes (gr. I), but Eugene and Laura Melnyk's Harmony Lodge will skip Friday's Saratoga feature.
Harmony Lodge is a daughter of Hennessy trained by Todd Pletcher who equaled Saratoga's track record for 5 1/2 furlongs in her lone start, a 5 1/2-length win. Pletcher said Harmony Lodge developed a "small bug" which will keep her on the sidelines Friday.
Also absent are all of Edward Evans' 2-year-old fillies trained by Mark Hennig. Gold Mover, With Ability, and Raging Fever have together won five stakes for juvenile fillies in addition to Gold Mover's win against males in the Kentucky Breeders' Cup Stakes (gr. III). With Ability had been pointed toward the Spinaway before being sidelined for the year with a fractured shin.
Stormy Pick, who handed With Ability her lone career defeat in the Sorority Stakes (gr. III) at Monmouth Park, is entered in the seven-furlong Spinaway and will break from post position three under jockey Jose C. Ferrer. The Ben Perkins Jr. trainee, a daughter of Storm Creek, dueled for the early lead before drawing off to a 1 3/4-length victory in the Sorority. With Ability finished third.
The field for the Spinaway will consist of:
1--Nasty Storm, Mike Smith
2--Seeking It All, Aaron Gryder
3--Stormy Pick, Jose C. Ferrer
4--Hit Gold, Robbie Davis
5--Out of Sync, Marlon St. Julien
6--Weekend Gold, Pat Day
7--Look of the Lynx, Richard Migliore
8--Queen Carson, Shane Sellers
9--Two Item Limit, Edgar Prado
