The Equine Drug Council began meeting regularly this year after Frank Shoop was named chairman of the Kentucky Racing Commission. During a question-and-answer session with the Kentucky Thoroughbred Media Sept. 6, Shoop made no mention of changes on the drug council but did say medication issues are a priority for the commission.
Ned Bonnie, the Louisville, Ky., attorney with a background in equine medication issues, has been named to Kentucky's revitalized Equine Drug Council by Gov. Paul Patton. Another new appointee to the council is Dr. William Baker, a veterinarian from Versailles, Ky.Bonnie and Baker replace Carol Hebel and Dr. James (Fred) Arnold, respectively, on the panel. The other members were reappointed: Dr. James Flesher, Dr. James Sautter, Robert Stallings, Sam Bowie, Rick Hiles, and Alice Chandler.
