Australian stallion Geiger Counter, who sired 44 stakes winners, died of cancer in mid-September at Chatswood Stud. His death came several weeks after his son Nuclear Debate won the Victor Chandler Nunthorpe Stakes (Eng-I) at York, England. Nuclear Debate was a champion sprinter in Italy last year. Eighteen-year-old Geiger Counter (Mr. Prospector -- Thong, by Nantallah) began his stud career at Michael Byrne's Park Stud in Ontario, Canada, and began shuttling to Australia starting in 1992. He served double duty the next several years before making his home in Australia.
