According to the paper, the plans for the track met with opposition from Dixon residents. The report continued that in a phone call to Dixon City Manager Warren Salmons last week, Magna Director Ronald J. Magna Entertainment Corp. will not follow through with its plan to build a track in the small Northern California city of Dixon, according to a published report in the Sacramento Bee. The report says Magna sent Dixon officials a three-sentence fax message on Tuesday which notified the city of Magna's intentions.Magna has been seeking a Northern California site to build a track and training facility in anticipation of the closure of Bay Meadows. Magna owns the Bay Meadows Operating Company but leases the Bay Meadows grounds from Paine Webber, who will likely develop the property beginning in 2002.
