Tattersalls reported the session average of 37,454 guineas represented a 38.7% increase over the comparable session average one year ago and the gross was up 32.4%. After two days of the five-day auction, the cumulative average is up 49.3% and the gross so far represents a 28.9% gain.
Agent John Ferguson, acting on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed's Godolphin Racing, paid the top price of 220,000 guineas for each of three yearlings purchased during the second session of Tattersalls' October yearling sale Wednesday. Godolphin's purchases were a Cadeux colt consigned by Highclere Stud; a Zafonic colt from the Side Hill Stud consignment; and an Entrepreneur filly consigned by Mountarmstrong Stud.Ferguson said the Zafonic colt resembled his half brother Pentire, the highweighted 3-year-old colt in England and Ireland and now a successful sire who had been bought by Ferguson as a yearling. "This colt really is a nice athletic type and quite small--as was Pentire," Ferguson said.
