In a transaction valued in excess of $14 million, Coolmore Stud has entered into an agreement with Celtic Pride Stable under which the Irish breeding nursery will control the breeding career of A P Valentine. According to an announcement made through Celtic Pride, the racing entity managed by Boston Celtics basketball coach Rick Pitino will race the son of A. P. Indy-Twenty Eight Carat through 2001, at which time Coolmore will assume control.Trained by Nick Zito, Champagne Stakes winner A P Valentine was scheduled to work at Churchill Downs on Tuesday in preparation for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile."He's going to run in Celtic Pride colors on Saturday, and if the deal is completed, he'll run in Celtic Pride colors next year," Zito said. "But I really don't know what the deal is. For me, it's one more thing to deal with, one more distraction. For A P Valentine, he doesn't know or care who trains him."
