Cetewayo Returns in Red Smith Handicap

Michael Dickinson-trained Cetewayo returns to the races Saturday in the $150,000 Red Smith Handicap (gr. IIT), the last graded stakes this year on turf in New York. Cetewayo has raced just twice since finishing sixth in the 1998 Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT), winning the Riggs Handicap at Pimlico in May 1999 and sixth in the United Nations Handicap (gr. IT) in July.

Also entered are Elkhorn (gr. IIIT) winner Drama Critic, this year's Riggs Handicap winner Carpenter's Halo, Val's Prince, and the promising 3-year-old Whata Brainstorm. Whata Brainstorm comes into the 1 3/8-mile Red Smith out of a winning effort in the Calder Derby (gr. IIIT) and will be ridden by jockey Bill Henry.
