Nicks said Solar Bound will likely be bred to Seeking the Gold.
Diane and Guy Snowden's Edgewood Stakes winner Solar Bound has been retired due to a severe episode of pulmonary bleeding during an allowance race at Churchill Downs on Wednesday. The 4-year-old filly was pulled up during the race by jockey Mark Guidry and, due to the severity of the bleeding, her connections decided to retire her."She looked like she was going to be a top racehorse at one time, but she had some physical ailments," said Ralph Nicks, an assistant to trainer Bill Mott. "Add the bleeding on top of that and it would have been stretching it a little bit to go on with her."Solar Bound (Boundary--Solar Star, by Lear Fan) retires with four wins in 11 career starts and earnings of $226,470. Prior to Wednesday's allowance race, Solar Bound finished third in both the Bryan Station Stakes and the Noble Damsel Handicap (gr. IIIT). She won the 1999 Edgewood Stakes by six lengths and subsequently finished second to Nani Rose in the Regret Stakes (gr. IIIT).
