El Cielo Rallies For Turf Express Victory

Hollywood Park Press Release
El Cielo rallied from fourth at the head of the stretch to collar pacesetter Texas Glitter in the final strides to win the Hollywood Turf Express (gr. III). The 6-year-old prevailed by a neck while covering the 5 ½ furlongs in 1:01 3/5.

Texas Glitter, an eastern invader ridden by Aaron Gryder, finished a half-length in front of Full Moon Madness and jockey Gary Stevens in third. Purely Cozzene was fourth in the field of seven older horses.

El Cielo, trained for a partnership by Craig Dollase, posted his ninth win in 20 lifetime starts. The winner's share of $120,000 boosted his career bankroll to $493,695.

"What a horse, he's got a heart as big as the racetrack," Dollase said. "Corey rode him well. The inside move he made saved ground, then he swung out and he really came home strong."

El Cielo paid $6, $4 and $2.80. Texas Glitter returned $4.60 and $3.20, while Full Moon Madness paid $2.60.
