Brave Act, who earned $1,498,784 of his career total of $1,546,269 for Sidney Craig, has been sold and will stand the 2001 breeding season at A. F. O'Callaghan's Tally-Ho Stud in Ireland. Six-year-old Brave Act (Persian Bold -- Circus Act, by Shirley Heights) will stand for IR£3,500.
Craig bought English-bred Brave Act during the horse's 2-year-old season and pointed him toward the 1997 Triple Crown. In his first U.S. start, Brave Act finished eighth in the Arkansas Derby (gr. II) a few weeks before the Kentucky Derby (gr. I), and it was decided to try him on the turf. He won the Will Rogers Handicap (gr. IIIT) next time out, and never was tried on the dirt again. He ended up winning nine additional stakes, seven of which were graded.
Brave Act, who was a group winner in England prior to his U.S. arrival, was retired with 13 wins from 27 starts.
