French Deputy Going to Japan

French Deputy, an 8-year-old son of Deputy Minister, has been sold to Shadai Corp. of Hokkaido, Japan, according to Robert Clay, syndicate manager and owner of Three Chimneys Farm near Midway, Ky. The purchase price was not disclosed, and the deal is subject to a veterinary examination and blood testing. No travel plans have been announced for the stallion, yet.

"I understand the intention is to export him to Japan as quickly as the quarantine and testing requirements allow, but as of now, we do not have a precise shipping date," Clay said.

French Deputy has sired two crops of racing age that include five stakes winners and five stakes-placed performers. His leading 3-year-old is Left Bank, winner of the Discovery Handicap (gr. III), and his leading juvenile is English stakes winner Freefourracing who won the ATS Euromaster Prestige Stakes (Eng-III).

The stallion's advertised stud fee for 2001 was $17,500.
