Jockey Carmouche Faces Sexual Assault Charges

Philadelphia Park jockey Kendrick Carmouche, 19, was charged this week in Pennsylvania with sexual assault involving a 14-year-old girl.

Carmouche, currently the third-leading rider at Philadelphia Park, faces charges of indecent sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, and related offenses. Authorities escorted Carmouche out of the jockey's room before the first race Tuesday. He was replaced on all his scheduled mounts.

Carmouche, a son of veteran jockey Sylvester Carmouche, was arraigned later Tuesday by Bucks County District Justice Leonard Brown and sent to Bucks County Prison in lieu of $250,000 bail.

Attempts to reach Carmouche and his agent, Jim Boulmetis, yesterday were unsuccessful.

Carmouche allegedly had sex with the girl on four different occasions between September 2002 and July 2003, according to court documents. Despite claims by Carmouche the sex was consensual, Brown stated no person under age 16 can give consent for sex.

Before his arrest Carmouche had ridden 117 winners with purse earnings of $1.7 million this year at Philadelphia Park.
